COURSE DESCRIPTION
Orthodontic treatment for compromised patients with periodontal problems.
Compromised periodontal patients the require orthodontic treatment are one
of the most challenging to treat due to the limited dental movements that can be accomplished as well as the severe bone loss. Not long time ago there was the misunderstanding that patients with periodontal disease will be more damaged by the orthodontic treatment than benefited from it.
Definite Orthodontic treatment for patients with TMD.
The Temporomanibular Joint problems is a severe physiological disease which affects and deteriorates the quality of life of many people and has been increasing among our patients due to the stressing social and work changes. During more than half a century there has been controversy among general dentists, prosthodontists, orthognathic surgeants and orthodontists on how to diagnose
and treat TMD. This means that we have many different concepts in dentistry
on how the TMD problems have to be diagnosed and approached.
Orthodontic preparation for skeletal Class III surgical correction.
The Skeletal Class III malocclusion is one of the most difficult to correct, not only because of the severe discrepancy but also because the orthodontic preparation
as well as the surgical prediction prior to the orthognathic surgery is very important to achieve. All this to facilitate the surgical procedure for the maxilofacial surgeon and accomplish the best functional and aesthetic results without any complication and relapse after surgery. The use of a computerized cephalometric program that helps on predicting the craniofacial behavior and growth of the Class III patients will help us in our diagnosis and treatment planning (VTO – virtual treatment Objective. STO -Surgical Treatment Objective).
Orthodontic preparation for skeletal Class II surgical correction.
Severe Class II Maloclusion diagnosis is very important althoug many patients can be corrected without surgery, the selection criteria for surgical correction is very important to avoid undesire results. It is also critical to do a surgical treatment prediction (STO) to accomplish the best aesthetics and functinal results among with a long term stability.
Distalization mechanics and appliances for Class II skeletal discrepancies.
Distalization mechanics for Class II have been used since 1992, there many kind of distalization devices and each one of them have and specific criteria and clinical application, the selection criteria for this kind of patients is very important to avoid an undesire result, and the retention alter distalizing the posterior teeth is also critical to continue with the treatment of the correction for the Class II maloclusion.
Uni-lateral and Bilateral Posterior-Crossbite corrections with corticotomies.
Accelerated Orthodontics with Corticotomies
Corticotomies have been applied to a variety of treatment modalities, such
as retraction of the anterior teeth for bimaxillary dentoalveolar protrusion
in combination with skeletal anchorage and closing of anterior open bites.
The selective labial and lingual decortications or osteotomies of the alveolar bone, are used to help in orthodontics to avoid periodontal damage and root resorption. In the area of the desired tooth movement are performed smooth corticotomies beginning at the alveolar crest and extended beyond the apices of the teeth, plus an horizontal corticotomy will connect the vertical ones.
