Class II treatment with Dual Activation mechanics and bite-jumping auxiliaries

Low friction has brought enormous advantages to every Straight-wire technique. Passive self-ligation has it’s focus points in reducing friction and thereby increasing efficiency in the speed of leveling and alignment and sliding mechanics. Nevertheless, friction is not an enemy to the orthodontist and it is essential for three-dimensional control of tooth movement. Dual Activation mechanics are the key to efficient alignment, torque control and a beautiful and effective finishing. The lecture will focus on the most efficient and effective approach to class II malocclusions using a Dual Activation system and auxiliaries such as the Powescope, the Power bar and intra-oral distalizers. Both compliance and no-compliance mechanics will be discussed and as well the role of TADs in modern orthodontics.

Learning objectives:
• The characteristics of the Dual Activation System
• The hardware of the treatment phases
• The strategies to solve class II malocclusions
• The use of the Powerscope, Power bar and no-compliance molar distalizers

Guido Sampermans

Clinical excellence and efficiency using an active self-ligating bracket system

Dr. Robert Keirn, Editor of the Journal of Clinical Orthodontics, stated that the future of orthodontics will focus on three main areas: 3D imaging to replace two dimensional cephalometry, self-ligating brackets, and micro-implants as endosseous anchorage. This lecture focuses on Dr. Sampermans’ clinical experiences working over the last 11 years with active self-ligating brackets, having finished over 5000 cases with this type of bracket. The freedom of sliding using thin heat-activated super elastic wires changed the treatment procedure dramatically. The interaction of the clip and bigger rectangular wires overcomes many previous torquing problems. This very clinical lecture using several patient examples, gives a detailed overview of diagnosis, treatment planning, wire sequences and mechanics using self-ligating bracket systems, along with lots of clinical tips and tricks.

Course Objectives:
• Historical review of the pre-adjusted appliance system
• Changes in treatment planning: asymmetric extractions
• Advantages of self-ligating bracket systems
• Clinical use of friction and binding
• Prescription selection
• Differences between passive and active self-ligating systems
• Important keys to bracket placement with recommendations for direct and indirect bonding
• Leveling and aligning, including extraction and non-extraction treatment and arch wire sequencing
• Accurately and efficiently establish a stable arch form and coordinating arch wires
• Efficient space closure using light force sliding mechanics and loop mechanics
• Finishing with predictable and precise clinical outcomes

World’s Best Heavy Metal Band: Clips & Screws

Since several years now the orthodontic treatment with aligners became increasingly popular, not only due to constat evolution of materials and techniques but also due to high demand to esthetic treatment and speed. The „classic“ bracket has become the ultimate enemy of relative short treatment time and good looks, for the adult patients rather becoming inclined to aligners. However the evolution of materials and techniques did not happen only in the „world of plastic“ but also in the „world of metal“. The door for new concepts and ideas has been wide opened. The technological advancements in bracket and wire technology, and the inclusion of skeletal anchorage has opened new possibilities in treating even the most difficult and severe forms of malocclusion without the need for surgical assistance. All-in-one digital plans, solutions and appliances are becoming increasingly popular as they offer less chair time for the orthodontist and reliable and fast treatment option for the patient. Skeletal discrepancies, retained teeth, severe tooth malposition can be tackled with competence and finesse. Self-ligation systems and TAD based appliances offer unprecedented biomechanical advantages and can be effectively used with little patient compliance. The level of effectiveness is not only based on high quality materials and technology, but also on the vast possibilities of advanced digital planning. This lecture will rock your world, the star metal duo: self-ligating brackets with skeletal anchorage appliances.

A Comprehensive Orthodontic Management with Self-Ligating Systems

Self-ligating bracket systems have evolved from being perceived as a simple mechanical alternative to conventional appliances into a powerful and versatile tool for managing a wide spectrum of orthodontic malocclusions. When correctly selected and biologically driven, self-ligating systems allow the clinician to control biomechanics, efficiency, and finishing quality across both extraction and non-extraction protocols. This lecture will present a comprehensive and clinically oriented overview of how self-ligating systems can be effectively used in everyday orthodontic practice, covering the full range of malocclusions and treatment scenarios. Specific attention will be dedicated to bracket selection, torque expression, archwire sequencing, and force management in different clinical situations. Clinical protocols will be illustrated through case presentations, emphasizing decision-making rather than appliance-driven treatment. In addition, interdisciplinary orthodontic management will be addressed and the role of self-ligating systems in optimizing treatment efficiency, reducing unwanted side effects, and improving finishing will be critically analyzed. The goal of this lecture is to provide clinicians with a structured and reproducible approach to using self-ligating systems as a comprehensive solution for modern orthodontic practice, moving beyond simplified concepts and focusing on biomechanical control, individualization, and clinical excellence.

Skills & Tools – Expanding Your Grandpa

In “Skills & Tools – Expanding Your Grandpa,” Dr. Adam Angerman will join forces with Kamil Osasiuk to unveil their proprietary approach to maxillary expansion. Collectively, they will present their developed treatment protocol, sharing the practical “skills and tools” essential for safely and effectively conducting therapy in adult and mature patients. Dr. Kamil Osasiuk will dismantle the myths surrounding adult expansion. He will share his extensive clinical protocol for MARPE, focusing on the practical “skills and tools” required to treat older patients safely and effectively, pushing the boundaries of what is considered possible in adult orthodontics. Dr. Adam Angerman together with Dr. Kamil Osasiuk – the co-creators of specific treatment methodologies utilizing the MSE appliance and MARPE protocols.
• Diagnostics: Utilization of the Yonsei Transverse Index, Airways and recognizing dental compensations
• Appliance Design: Design, discussion of key skeletal expander features, and strategies for micro-implant placement.
• Protocols: Rapid vs. slow expansion – choosing the activation path and post-procedure recommendations.
• Anchorage: Using the MSE screw as stable skeletal anchorage for precise tooth movement.

Effective use of empower self-ligating brackets in hybrid mechanics.

Recent advances in digital diagnostic tools have significantly transformed orthodontic treatment planning, enabling more personalized and predictable therapeutic approaches. Comprehensive digital analysis allows for accurate diagnosis and the design of hybrid treatment protocols that combine fixed appliances and aligners, tailored to both clinical requirements and patient expectations. Within this hybrid framework, Empower self-ligating brackets play a fundamental role during the initial phase of treatment, facilitating efficient case preparation when fixed orthodontic therapy is indicated. The Empower system, which integrates active and passive self-ligation, enhances alignment, rotation and torque control, and the correction of complex dentoalveolar discrepancies, establishing a favorable biomechanical foundation for subsequent treatment stages. Following the achievement of these initial objectives, cases may be finished using aligners,
optimizing treatment efficiency, aesthetics, and patient comfort.
