COURSE TOPICS

HOW TO OVERCOME THE LIMITS OF STREIGHT WIRE APPLIANCE
Straight wire systems are effective in many orthodontic cases but not in all ones because some unpredictable movements and side effects can happen and in complex cases they can become inefficient. It will be explained how to prevent these side effects and also various custom-made orthodontic auxiliary devices very useful to overcome the limits of straight wire systems will be described.A lot of complex orthodontic cases and their successful treatment will be presented too.

AGENDA

08:00 – 08:30 – Registration and welcome coffee break

08:30 – 11:00
Rationale of continuous versus segmented archwire mechanics. Straight wire side effects: Burstone six geometries.Box loops: an efficient device to perform difficult first and second order corrections.Transpositions correction: a challenge for the orthodontist.

11:00 – 11:30 – Coffee break

11:30 – 13:00
Centers of resistance of teeth.Application of a single force.Force and moments. Statically determined and undetermined systems.Moment-to-force ratio and prediction of orthodontic tooth movement. tion). Difficult impacted canines treatment. Power arms and their limits: hinge mechanics. Power arms and their limits:hinge mechanics. Symmetrical and asymmetrical mesialization of posterior teeth.

13:00 – 14:00 – Lunch time

14:00 – 16:00
Intrusion arches(normal and utility shape) and correlated biomechanics. Correction of canted anterior occlusal plane without miniscrews

16:00 – 16:30 – Coffee break

16:30 – 18:00
Molar uprighting: alpha-beta springs. How to obtain mesial root movement and intrusion of the molar during uprighting. Inefficiency of torque prescription. Torque arch and reverse torque arch.Orthodontic treatment of gingival recessions.

LECTURER

CIARLANTINI-27

DR. ROBERTO CIARLANTINI

Dr. Roberto Ciarlantini got his MSD degree with honors at Bologna University, in 1989. In 1992 he received his orthodontic education in Denmark, at Aarhus University, mentored by prof. Birte Melsen. He lectured nationally and internationally and published in various international orthodontic journals. He was invited speaker at American Association of Orthodontists meeting in Atlanta in 2020. He is mentioned in American Board of Orthodontics Reading List since 2018. He was awarded in various orthodontic contests (SIDO 2006,WIOC 2012,Simply Ortho 2018). His main fields of interest are biomechanics, skeletal anchorage, interdisciplinary treatment and lingual orthodontics. He held courses on biomechanics both in Italy and abroad. He has a private practice limited to orthodontics in Recanati (Italy) since 1991.
