COURSE TOPICS

TADs IN MODERN ORTHODONTICS

Skeletal anchorage has broadly widened the spectrum of modern orthodontics and increased the clinician’s possible treatment options, both when dealing with growing patients and with adult patients with compromised dentitions. Absolute anchorage can now be planned in any clinical situation aiding the clinician in difficult tasks like space closure, vertical control, intrusion and extrusion of group of teeth, forced eruption of impacted teeth, class II
mechanics and many more. The recent introduction of palatal anchorage with abutment-type miniscrews has broadened even further the horizons of daily clinical practice allowing new protocols for maxillary expansion (MARPE), molar distalization and class III adolescent orthopaedic treatment.
The course will focus on the indications for the use of orthodontic inter-radicular and palatal TADs and the relative biomechanics needed to obtain successful orthodontic tooth movement in a predictable and reliable way. Useful tips and trick will be described in order to facilitate daily clinical work. Daily workflow with the use of fixed appliances, auxiliaries like
intra-oral distalizers, Power bar, Herbst appliance and several others with selected treatment protocols will be fully described and discussed.

THE DUAL SYSTEM PHILOSOPHY FOR
RATIONALLY EFFICIENT ORTHODONTICS.

Self-ligating brackets and the concept of low friction brought on the orthodontic market an
increasing number of innovative treatment techniques and philosophies mainly centered on
the characteristics of the brackets and wires used. Unfortunately, this took away attention
from the the solid principles of a correct and detailed diagnosis, focusing on the concept of a
“simple” and “pre packaged” orthodontics in which the malocclusions adapt to the
mechanics and not viceversa. New generation brackets and archwires should not guide the
treatment decisions but should guarantee to the clinician complete reliability in the
expression of the prescription values and simplify the journey to the treatment objectives.
Low friction is often synonymous of lack of control, especially when using passive-type
brackets, because of the use of undersized archwires in oversized slots, generating difficulties
in torque control, rotation control and finishing of the occlusion. The Dual System Philosophy
was thought for the need to guarantee maximum torque control in the anterior segment
without loosing the benefits of the low friction in the posterior segments. Combining the
feature of the Dual Activation with a bi-dimentional slot size makes it possible to cancel the
weak points of the passive self-ligating bracket allowing simplicity to achieve optimal
results.Self-ligating brackets and the concept of low friction brought on the orthodontic
